Pigeon Island National Landmark
Pigeon
Island lies off the northwest coast of St. Lucia and
exhibits much of the same features as the mainland. The
Island contains some of the oldest rocks found on Saint
Lucia, dated back to the Eocene age about 58 million
years ago. The first inhabitants of Pigeon Island were
the Amerindians who had migrated northward from South
America through the island chain.
Some
of the stone, shell and clay artefacts found along the
eastern shore, date back to around 1,0000 A.D. Fort
Rodney is on the south side, and offers magnificent view
of the coastline and rises to 68.2 metres above sea
level. The western side mountain is steep and rocky with
only two possible landing sites, used by Rodney as gun
slides. Pigeon Island is famous for the island’s annual
Jazz Festival. It’s the perfect spot for an educational
tour, relaxing and half day tour. A tour to visit this
site is arranged through us with our expert guide [
Stormy Norman ] or you can do it your self. |
